The new coach of Ekiti United FC, Kehinde Anjorin, on Monday assured fans of the club that newly-recruited players in the team would perform credibly in the forthcoming Nigeria‎ Nationwide League (NNL).

Anjorin, who gave the assurance during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ado-Ekiti, said the team would move to its training Camp in Afao-Ekiti on Feb.16.

He said that training would enable the team to prepare adequately, ahead of the league, expected to kick-off in the first week of March.

Anjorin said that the pre-season friendly matches that the team actively participated in were a benchmark to ‎measure the fitness and abilities of the players.

The coach, however, said that all the team’s 44 players took part in the competition, before the beginning of league, noting that some of them would be dropped.

“I have given the boys an opportunity to display their skills and talents but I notice that some of them are not good enough for the team.

“In due time, I will reshuffle the team and select the first and the second team ‎before the league kicks off finally,” he said.

Anjorin also said that adequate accommodation had been provided for the team by the management of the club in Afao-Ekiti.

The NNL Division One, formerly called the Nigerian Amateur League, is the third level of club football in Nigeria. It is divided into four groups by geography, with either nine, ten or eleven teams each.

Every year, up to eight teams are promoted to the Professional Division One.

Since 2012, when the league changed its name from the Amateur League, it has promoted three teams per division, instead of two, every year.

This was after a long delay in confirming promotions from the previous year, due to protests by some teams.
