The Kano State Government on Monday donated relief materials worth N15 million to victims of 2015 flood disaster in Albasu Local Government Area of the state.

Alhaji Bashir Ali, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Agency (SERERA), disclosed this while distributing the materials in Albasu.

He said the decision to donate the items was borne out of the state government’s effort to alleviate the sufferings of the victims.

He said the flood, which occurred in June 2015, had affected over 400 persons in two villages in the area.

He disclosed that in Hungu village over 287 persons were affected while in Paragai village 128 persons were affected by the flood.

The executive secretary called on the beneficiaries to make proper use of the materials to rebuild their houses.

In his remarks, the District Head of Albasu, Alhaji Bashir Albasu, commended the state government for the gesture.

He urged the state government to come to the aid of the communities living in the area by diverting the river that was causing the flooding.

“The only last solution to prevent the flood disaster in our area is to divert the river.

“If this measure is not taken, there is possibility of experiencing similar problem during subsequent rainy seasons,” he said.
