Mr. Osung Ekpo, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of Area K Police Command, Morogbo, Lagos state has died in a swimming pool as he was celebrating the St. Valentine’s Day with some of his friends.
According to The Guardian, the area commander allegedly died in a swimming pool at a popular hotel in Ajah area of the state during a hang-out with some friends when he decided to swim and drowned. His corpse has since been deposited at the morgue, while investigations into his death is said to be ongoing. Eye witnesses said that he was rescued from the pool and was taken to the hospital but died few minutes later.
Ekpo led a team of officer to reclaim Police land at Morogbo area of Badagry that was sold to unsuspecting members of the public by some land grabbers. Lagos state police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police said that the ACP had gone for a swimming exercise when the sad incident occurred. She said: “Yes, we lost ACP Ekpo, the Area Commander, Area K Command. He was exercising in a swimming pool when he died.”
In another development, the inspector-general of police (IGP), Solomon Arase has linked the recent attacks by herdsmen on farmlands and communities in the country to the porous state of Nigerian borders.
The police boss stated this during the weekend at an interactive session with stakeholders on community policing in Akure, Ondo state. Arase stated that most troublesome herdsmen were foreigners who entered the country with their cattle unleashing mayhem on innocent citizens of Nigeria.
