Not Responsible For Present Economic Challenges – Dogara

Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara

The All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government should not be blamed for the current economic challenges facing the country, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has said.

A statement issued by his spokesman, Turaki Hassan, and obtained by LEADERSHIP, said Dogara spoke when he received in audience unemployed Aeronautic Engineers and Pilots from his native Bauchi state, who had called on him in his office on Tuesday.

The Speaker said although some people say that those at the helm of affairs in the country should not push blame to those responsible for the country’s woos, he strongly believe that those who brought Nigeria to its current state should be blamed.

While acknowleging that the APC-led government campaigned on the grounds of change with promise to fix the country, Dogara however, noted that the government is working hard to sanitise a rotten system which he said will take sometime.

“You know that we are facing challenges in the country at the moment even though people dont want to talk about it in the sense that they keep saying that we campaigned on the grounds that we are going to fix the country so we shouldnt complain,” he said.

According to him, “But the problem is that you must put the blame where it is while you face the issues and find solutions to it,”

“We have sowed in the wind and we are now where reaping whirlwind and as long as the earth abide there will be seed time and harvest time. We dont want to dwell in the past. We are facing the future,”

The Speaker urged the unemployed youths in the country not to despair as the present administration is doing everthing possible to create job opporyunities.

He said further said: “The investment in education, skills and knowlege is never a wasted investment.”

Dogara expressed optimism that with the kind of people leading Nigeria and with determination as well as sincerity of purpose, the problem of unemployment would be surmounted

“Don’t despair because no training is wasted; but it is our responsibility to open the private sector for job oportunitues”, he said.

He said it behoved on all to put hands on deck to sanitise the system so as to create the enabling opportunities for employment.

“If they are not employed, it will be a disservice to the society as well as discouragement to the graduates”, he said.

Speaking earlier, the Leader of the team, Captain Bala Jibrin said the pilots and aeronautic engineers who were sponsored by the Bauchi State Government in the United States, graduated in 2011 but have been unemployed and requested the Speaker to facilitate their employment.

Jibrin, a former Commissioner of Education in Bauchi State, said the government spent about N1billion to train the 20 youths, cutting across the 20 Local Governments of Bauchi State.
