Sokoto Zakkat, Endowment Committee To Become Independent Soon – Gov Tambuwal

Sokoto state governor Aminu Tambuwal said yesterday that a bill has been sent to the state lawmakers seeking a full-fledged independent status for the Zakkat and Endowment committee.

Tambuwal, who insisted that, the purpose for which the committee was establishment would be maintained, assured therefore that, they would partner other financial institutions to enable the committee boost business capacity of locals.

Speaking when a Senior Training Specialist, Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Research and Training Institute, Dr Adbdulkader Shahi, visited Tambuwal, the governor averred that, the state is ready to partner with (IDB) to manage the state’s property and investment fund.

Stressing that, his government will continue to explore other available channels of collaboration with credible financial institutions to improve business and economic activities in sokoto state, Tambuwal noted that, funds under Zakkat and Endowment committee would be judiciously utilized.

“The government will continue to explore means of collaboration with leading financial institutions for tbe enhancemnt of business and economic activities in sokoto

“And economic potential of the venture, to be executed through the state’s Zakat and Endowment committee, will improve capacity of local businessmen to compete at home and abroad.

“Already a bill has been sent to the state House of Assembly for the upgrading of the zakat and endowment committee into a full-fledged independent commission. And funds under the care of the committee will continue to be judiciously utilised for the purpose it was set up for”. Tambuwal assured.

Ealier, the IDB Head of Research, Dr. Abdulkader, assured that, they have collaborated with many institutions and governments to provide information on models of Islamic economy, banking and finance.
