The Nigeria Police Force was struck with a tragedy on Valentine Day, February 14, following the death of its Area Commander in charge of Area K Police Command, Morogbo, Mr. Osung Ekpo, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) who died in a swimming pool at a popular hotel in the Ajah area of Lagos.

The Guardian reports that a Police source had revealed that the incident ‘was the worst valentine gift for the police’.

It was gathered that ACP Ekpo who was in company of his friends, had gone to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day when he decided to swim and was drowned.

An eye witness accounts reveal that he had been rescued from the pool and rushed to an undisclosed hospital but died some time later.

Confirming the tragedy, the Lagos State Police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police disclosed that the ACP had gone for a swimming exercise when the sad incident occurred.

She said: “Yes, we lost ACP Ekpo, the Area Commander, Area K Command. He was exercising in a swimming pool when he died. I am preparing a press release, which I would send to you soon. “
