The Police in Anambra State yesterday paraded 15 suspected cult members and armed robbers including a 22-year-old man, Chigozie Ugwu, for stealing more than 52 women’s under-wears in Awka.
Parading the suspects, at the police command headquarters Awka, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ali Okechukwu, said Ugwu was also involved in burglary and stealing of items valued at N500,000 in a shop along Emma Nnaemeka Street in Awka.
The police also paraded one Christopher Onwe, 24, said to have been arrested at Nkpo in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state. His other three-gang members are said to be at large.
Okechukwu said, “They are members of Baggers Confraternity secret cult and four armed robbers terrorising Nkpor/Obosi and Ogidi communities.”
He said the items recovered from Onwe were four-locally made pistols, six live-cartridges and two bags of India hemp.
The police Spokesperson said at the same Nkpo, one Ugochukwu Nwagu, 21 years and Ebuka Amaechi, 18, were also arrested while holding their initiation at a location while other members took to their heels.
He said the suspects confessed to be members of Viking Confraternity, noting that items recovered from them were two cut-to-size double-barrel guns and five cartridges.
Others, including four females, three of whom were secondary school students (names withheld) were also paraded for cult-related offences.
