The role of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Eniitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi towards resolving the crisis between the management and students of the Obafemi Awolowo University ile-Ife has been commended by the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) just as it said it had waded into it.
NANS yesterday at a press conference addressed by its vice president, comrade Ayenuro Timileyin Gbenga at Osun NUJ Correspondents Chapel in Osogbo gave assurance that the suspended students union leaders of the institution would soon be reinstated.
While disassociating itself from the activities of another group that called for the probe of the vice–chancellor, Prof. Bamitale Omole and his management team, NANS expressed its commitment to get its members suspended over the crisis reinstated.
NANS said it had embarked on fruitful discussions with the management to resolve the matter adding that the misunderstanding would soon be resolved.
According to Ayenuro, NANS intervention is aimed at ensuring the restoration of the students’ union activities on OAU campus and the reinstatement of the suspended student union leaders.
He said: “NANS uses this medium to assure all Nigerian students and most especially OAU students that the student leaders and students’ union activities will soon be reinstated going by the various agreements reached.”
The President, OAU Student Union Government,Omotayo Akande also commended the Ooni of Ife for his leadership role in efforts to solve the crisis.
LEADERSHIP recalls that some leaders of the OAU students’ union were disciplined over their roles in the crisis that led to the closure of the institution for weeks recently.
