From Okey Sampson, Aba
Succour came the way of Mr Uchenna Cletus, one of the victims of last year’s shooting by the personnel of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Abia State Command at Ariaria Market Shoe Plaza when the member representing Aba North and South in the House of Representatives, Hon Prestige Ossy recently visited Horstman Hospital where he offset his hospital bill.
Uchenna was admitted in the hospital following injuries he sustained when the NDLEA officers shot indiscriminately at the Shoe Plaza section of Ariaria Market, killing about three traders and injuring scores of others.
Hon Ossy had then visited the market to see things for himself and the hospitals where the injured were taken for treatment.
At Horstman Hospital, he promised to pay the medical bill of the injured trader admitted there which he fulfilled last week.
Handing over a cheque which covered the medical expenses of Uchenna to the Medical Director of Horstman Hospital, Dr. Dennis Oji, the lawmaker said he was touched by the plight of the trader and had no option than to fulfil his promise of offsetting his hospital bills.
He used the occasion to advise security agents to be mindful of how they carry on with their duties as not to put the lives of those they were supposed to protect in danger.
According to the medical director of Horstman Hospital, Uchenna’s fractured shin was operated upon and healed to the stage it was at press time because arteries supplying blood to his legs were not affected by the gunshot, adding that the case was also handled more professionally.
Dr Oji while pouring encomiums on Hon Ossy for redeeming his pledge called on other legislators in the state to emulate the good gesture of the lawmaker and thanked him for showing concerned over what affects his constituents.
Mr Cletus Uchenna and wife thanked the lawmaker for coming to his aid in the hour of need and prayed God to bless him.
