The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described as erroneous, reports in a section of the media that former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff, is acting national chairman of the party.
The opposition party said Mr. Modu-Sheriff is the substantive national chairman and should be regarded as such.
The former Borno governor emerged chairman of the PDP Tuesday after his nomination by the various caucuses was ratified by the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the party.
A statement on Thursday by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, said Modu-Sheriff’s appointment by the NEC in its 68th meeting, to replace Dr. Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu, who resigned as National Chairman, “is in line with section 47(6) of the PDP Constitution, which empowers NEC to fill a vacant position with a person from the zone where the officer originated from”.
“The PDP, therefore, urges the media and members of the public to note this accordingly”, the statement concluded.
