The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige has reacted to allegations that made headlines on Thursday, February 18, that he collapsed while defending his ministry’s budget before the House of Representatives’ Committee on Labour.
However, investigations showed that the former Governor of Anambra State did not step his foot on the premises of the legislature on Thursday.
As at the time (midday on Thursday) the rumours made the round, Ngige, it was gathered, was out of the country; at Zambia on official duties.
The former Senator swiftly dismissed the rumour of his death, adding that the collapse rumour is laughable and a failed attempt by never to do well politicians for their selfish interest.
He said, “Dear friends, please disregard the wicked tissue of lies, contained in an online publication about an unfortunate incident said to have taken place today at the National Assembly and in which I was said to have been involved.
“I am currently not in the country much less being at the National Assembly. I have since Monday, February 15, 2016, been attending the 42nd Ordinary Session of the African Regional Labour Advisory Council, taking place in Zambia.
“The meeting ends tomorrow. Indeed, as the Vice-Chairman of today’s session, I had the privilege of moderating as well as giving the vote of thanks on behalf of other African countries.“The rumours in social media and other quarters shows how petty people can be, I don’t see it as anything but I wish to tell those who still play this outdated and obsolete politics of bitterness to embrace change and know that it is no longer business as usual.”
More findings showed that the actual incident, which occurred, involved an unidentified visitor to the National Assembly, who reportedly suddenly took ill.
