MNJTF Upbeat Insurgency will End Soon

Maj-Gen. Lamidi Adeosun, the Commander of the Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), has said that insurgency in the northeast region of Nigeria will soon become history.

Adeosun, who assumed office in Ndjamena in January, gave the assurance in Maiduguri on Friday while speaking with newsmen.

“The offensive against Boko Haram is a continuous thing and that is on-going.

“Now that the MNJTF headquarters is fully inaugurated and functioning, it is expected that the results will soon be coming to the fore, “ he said.

Adeosun said although MNJTF was established a year ago, it only became operational in January when the headquarters was inaugurated in Ndjamena.

“I am just one month old in the office; I am the third commander because the operation itself is relatively new.

“We took off effectively in January and the MNJTF headquarters has fully begun operation, all the staff officers are there.

“The temporary headquarters as provided by Chad Republic have been fully renovated and all the offices have been furnished so the place is fully operational, “ he said.

Adeosun said that the African Union had also supplied communication equipment to the headquarters to make it functional.

“We have got communication equipment which is a direct support from the African Union.

“All sectors now have direct communication with the headquarters, “ he said.

Adeosun said that the task-force was making efforts to ensure the re-opening of the Maiduguri – Gamboru – Ngala highway closed down because of terrorist attacks.

“In the past three years, nobody has been able to move bravely from Maiduguri to Ndjamena.

“But within the last two or three weeks, a team from MNJTF headquarters comprising the military-civil relation component and the civilian component travelled all the way from Ndjamena to Kuseri.

“They travelled from Kuseri to Fotokol and from Fotokol to Gamboru-Dikwa-Mafa-Maiduguri by road, “ he said.

Adeosun said that the team also moved from Maiduguri to Baga, Monguno, Kukawa and other areas to assess the situation.

“That was a test run case as part of the programme we have lined up for our operations.

“A lot of work is being done by MNJTF to fully operationalise and convince the people that it is not a dormant force.

“I must appreciate the efforts of the countries that made up the MNJTF and Benin Republic for contributing troops.

“We are looking forward that in no distant time that some of the challenges on the field will be met from the strategic partners. “

He gave an assurance that MNJTF would always adhere strictly to professional ethics in its operations.

“In the area of Human Rights, I will like to say that MNJTF is made up of professional military people from all the states that contributed the troops by our training, by our code of conduct and by our rules of engagement.

“All these are captured and we are living to those requirements to ensure that no collateral damage is done.

“I want people to always realise that soldiers are also clamouring that their rights should be safeguarded, “ Adeosun said.
