The 2015/2016 season of the Nigeria Professional Football League got off to a great start yesterday evening, when champions Enyimba experienced a rude awakening to the season, after a 0-1 loss to re-named side Rivers United in Port Harcourt, no thanks to Frederick Obomate’s 64th minute free-kick, which sailed past Femi Thomas.

The upset of the day was recorded in Abuja, where Nigeria’s CAF Confederation Cup representatives, Nasarawa United, fell to newly promoted Mountain of Fire & Miracles FC 1-2. Musa Newman shot MFM in front in the 18th minute, before Chukwuka Emmanuel made it two in the 33rd minute. Ifeanyi Nweke pulled one back for Nasarawa in the 75th minute, but the home team could not muster enough to get a shar of the points.

Emmanuel Ajila’s 15th minute goal helped Lobi Stars of Makurdi get one of the best results of the day – a 1-0 away win –over Shooting Stars in Ibadan.

Akwa United put its foot to the ground to share the spoils with Sunshine Stars in Akure, Friday Ubong’s 24th miute goal cancleed out Okiki Afolabi’s 12th minute effort. Iguadia Godspower Igudia was sent off after a second booking in the second half, but it did not make much different as the resolute sides played out an exciting game.

In other matches, Giwa fell 0-1 to visiting FC IfeanyiUbah, while debutantes Ikorodu United drew 1-1 with Abia Warriors.
